Pinta New York 2013 Museum Acquisitions Program
Since its creation as the only fair devoted to Latin American art outside Latin America, Pinta New York has had the objective to articulate the means necessary to improve the dissemination of art from the region through the market by supporting proposals that promote and expand the knowledge of this cultural production.
Aware of the important role of museums and institutional collections in validating the art that we present, the Pinta Museum Acquisitions Program was established during the first edition of Pinta New York and continues today. Pinta invites museums with an interest in Latin American art to participate in this program and incentivizes the acquisition of works for their collections through funds provided by Pinta and by patrons which partner museums match dollar-for-dollar. These works are selected by the museums’ respective curators from among those exhibited at the show and acquired to form part of their patrimony. This event is public and offers an opportunity for understanding, in situ, the processes of curatorial selection and the acquisition of artworks for museum collections.
Through this program, works totaling over one million dollars have been acquired to-date by participating museums such as The Museum of Modern Art, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, El Museo del Barrio, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Harvard Art Museum, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, Museo Tamayo, MALI, MALBA, and the Pinacoteca of the State of Sao Paulo, among others.
Museos Pinta Nueva York - Programa de Adquisición 2013
Pinta Nueva York, la únicas feria dedicadas al arte latinoamericano fuera de Latinoamérica, se propuso desde su creación articular los medios para la mejor difusión del arte de la región a través del mercado y apoyando propuestas que incrementen el conocimiento del mismo.
Conciente de la importancia del rol de los museos y las colecciones institucionales en la validación y difusión del arte que proponemos, desde la primera edición de Pinta en Nueva York y continuando hasta la fecha, se estableció el Pinta Museum Acquisitions Program. Este programa, en el que Pinta invita a participar a museos con interés en el arte latinoamericano, actuó como incentivo para la incorporación de obras a las colecciones de éstos a través de fondos provistos por Pinta, por los mismos museos y por mecenas, seleccionando los respectivos curadores obras que se adquirieron para sus acervos.
Se adquirieron así obras por un valor total que supera el millón de dólares, a través de este programa del que ya participaron algunos museos como el Museo Tamayo, el MALI, el MALBA, la Pinacoteca del Estado de Sao Paulo, el MOMA, el MFA Houston, el MFA Boston, el Harvard Art Museum, El Museo del Barrio, el Centre Pompidou y la Tate Modern, entre otros.
Este evento es público y ofrece una oportunidad de entender, in situ, los procesos de selección curatorial y la incorporación de obras de arte a la colecciones museísticas.
